Like the year before – I had decided to take part in CGOA
design competition also this year. As last year it was in fall, I was going to
start working on my entry in late spring. The competition surprised me – it turned
out it is happening during summer Chainlink conference – end of June. That meant
my entry had to be ready (including shipping time) in mid-May.
Nācās iespringt un sākt domāt, ko iesniegšu. Tas, ka vismaz
viens no konkursa darbiem būs kleita – bija skaidrs. Arī krāsa man bija padomā –
gribēju, lai ir gaiša. Kaut ko pamazām sāku skicēt savā kladē... bija vairāki
varianti. Pamazām arī pats dizains sāka konkretizēties...
I had to tense up and start thinking about submitions. It
was clear that at least one of my competition entries will be a dress. I also
had a color in mind – I wanted it to be light. So I started to sketch in my
notebook... had several versions. Little by little the design started to form
up...
18. martā biju nonākusi pie šādas skices (kas ir visai tuvu
gala iznākumam):
On March 18th I had come down to this sketch (which is
pretty close to the final result):
Vairākas dienas domāju, taisīju paraugus, mēģināju
izdomāt/izvēlēties rakstu. Tad sāku pamazām tamborēt.
I swatched, tried to choose/come up with stitch
pattern for several days. Then started to crochet.
Šī skice tapusi kaut kad sākumposmā, kad man vēl nebija
skaidrs, ko darīšu ar kleitas svārku daļu. Bija doma par freeform, bet šī kokvilnas
dzija galīgi nebija tam piemērota.
This sketch is made at some point in the beginning when it
wasn’t clear what to do with the skirt part of the dress. I was thinking of
freeform, but this cotton yarn was not suited for it.
Kā jau minēju – dzijas īpašības lika mazliet mainīt sākotnējo
domu. Veikalā taustot dziju, tā likās diezgan mīksta – arī adītais paraudziņš
bija mīksts. Kārtējo reizi pierādījās, ka pēc adītiem paraudziņiem tamborēšanai
dziju nevar pirkt (par šo pažēlošos kādu citu reizi). Sapratu – ja jau dzija
diezgan kokaina, tad jāizmanto to kā stipro pusi. Nolēmu, ka šai dzijai jāveido
saturošas ribas, kam pa vidu ietamborēšu ielaidumus, kas mazliet veidos kritumu.
As I mentioned – the characteristics of the yarn made me
change the design. I was touching andfeeling the yarn in a store – it (and the
knitted sample) seemed soft enough. Once again it prooved that you can’t buy
yarn for crocheting by seeing a knitted sample (I will complain about it some
other time). So I understood if the yarn is pretty stiff I have to use it in my
advantage. I decided that the yarn has to form ribs, and I will make more
drapey inserts between them.
Pleci veidoti no īsajiem stabiņiem. Kleitai ir mazliet pagarināta mugurpuse. Pelēcīgās krāsas līnijas
plecos „savelk kopā” pelēko. Man visvairāk patīk popkornu joslas un uzšūtais
rāvējslēdzējs mugurpusē.
The shoulders are made of single crochets. The dress has a dip-back. Gray lines on the
shoulders „pull” the grays together. I love the popcorn straps and sewn-on
zipper the most.

Lovely! I think we both started out 'Making our winning entry' posts with our surprise at the Competition being in June & the need to rush! Amazing work even if you hadn't had to work faster than you expected. :)
